1st Sunday after Trinity (22nd June) – Matthew 10:24-39

Need to Know

  1. 6 months until Christmas (!) when family celebrations reign supreme. How might we celebrate Church family this summer?
  2. It’s Radical Sunday. How might you challenge your congregation to adopt some justice issues?
  3. After Peter’s denial, Mary’s loyalty and Jesus’ inability to carry his own cross, might Jesus be less radical at the end of his life?

Need to Challenge

  1. If we are not getting hassle for being Christian, what challenges does our lifestyle pose?
  2. If we are not getting hassle for being Christian, are we spending all our spare time in a Christian ghetto?
  3. If we are not getting hassle for being Christian, are we speaking out against racism/ other -isms?

Need to Comfort

  1. One day all those things done in secret against us will be made known. Although this may be scary, why is it important?
  2. All your hairs on your head are numbered? This may not be a big count! But what does it tell us about God?
  3. Peace isn’t some cosy closet but what there is after justice is achieved. Do we need to sharpen our ‘swords’?
