5th Sunday after Trinity – 20th July 2014
Matthew 13: 24-30, 36-43

Need to Know

1. If the devil is going from our baptism services, is today the right time to teach why this has been done?
2. Who is this enemy? And why is the enemy allowed to do this?
3. What do we mean when we read ‘the children of the evil one’?

Need to Challenge

1. Do we believe we can’t unpick good from evil?
2. If evil is inextricably mixed up with the good, can the perpetrators of crimes towards us be blamed?
3. If good is inextricably mixed up with the evil, can the do-ers of good be celebrated?

Need to Comfort

1. The bundles of weeds will provide fuel for heat and cooking. How has God used our sins/weakenesses for the good of his Kingdom?
2. Do we remember that our sins which dog us will be one day stripped from us and thrown into the fire? (I can’t wait!)
3. Do we remember that all the good we do is being collected and one day we will see them shine?

I think these are particularly stimulating questions this week – alas, too late for me, as I never get the “starter” until the Monday following the service! But they are very challenging and thought-provoking points and I am wrestling with them even as I type – thank you.
