11th Sunday after Trinity – Sunday 31st August
Matthew 16:21-end

Need to Know
1. What’s this word ‘show’ (v21)? Surely, Jesus was telling them not showing them. How might he show them?
2. Why is Jesus so angry with Peter? I wonder if Peter said what Jesus was thinking when he, Jesus, was having doubts.
3. How are we saving our lives? How are we losing our lives?

Need to Challenge
1. Do we really want to become Jesus’ followers? Have we seen what it costs?
2. Those who come to us for baptism, do we preach both grace and the costliness of being baptised?
3. The good news (on the third day be raised) is buried in six words. What other good news is in this passage?

Need to Comfort
1. How can we support those who are facing ‘great suffering’?
2. Who are being stumbling blocks to us by giving us cosy advice?
3. Do you think after Jimmy Savile the judgement – when people will be repaid for what has been done (v27), now seems so right?
